Help after a data breach

Told your details were in a data breach? We'll help you lock things down.

  • Company has emailed to say
  • Website or app warned that
  • You've had sign-in alerts
  • Your ID documents

When a company you deal with has a data breach, your email, passwords or ID details may be exposed, sometimes on the dark web (hidden websites where stolen details are traded). We help you act straight away: change the passwords that matter, turn on two-step sign-in, check your accounts for changes, and explain how to protect your credit file. This is one-off help for a breach that's already happened; we don't offer ongoing monitoring.

Common problems

What's happened?

  • A company has emailed to say your details were in a breach
  • A website or app warned that your password was found online
  • You've had sign-in alerts or password resets you didn't ask for
  • Your ID documents, such as a licence or passport, may have been exposed
  • You're getting more scam emails, texts or calls than usual
  • You're not sure which accounts used the leaked password

How we fix it

How we help after a breach

  1. Work out what was exposed

From the breach notice and what you know, we work out which details and accounts are affected.

  2. Change the passwords that matter

Starting with email, then any account that used the same password, with strong, different passwords.

  3. Turn on two-step sign-in

On email and every account that offers it, so a leaked password alone isn't enough.

  4. Check your accounts

Recent sign-ins, recovery details and email forwarding, looking for changes you didn't make.

  5. Explain your next steps

How to protect your credit file, replace exposed ID documents and spot follow-up scams, in plain English.

What this service doesn't cover Ongoing or round-the-clock monitoring, and contacting the company that had the breach. We help with the steps on your side.
