Right now

Think something's wrong? Do this now

If a call, message or warning on your screen doesn't feel right, these four steps keep you safe.

  1. Stop and hang up

Hang up the phone, or close the message. If your screen shows a warning with a phone number, don't call it. Turn the computer off.

  2. Don't pay or share codes

Never pay, buy gift cards, or read out a code sent to your phone, however urgent it sounds.

  3. Money involved? Call your bank

If you've paid, or shared card or banking details, call your bank straight away on the number on the back of your card.

  4. Then call us

We'll check your computer, remove anything a scammer left behind and secure your accounts. 08 6559 6485

Scams

Scams that often target older adults

Scammers sound friendly, official and urgent. Knowing the common tricks makes them much easier to spot.

"There's a problem with your computer" calls

Someone says they're from Microsoft, Telstra or the NBN and asks to connect to your computer to fix it.

Hang up. Real companies don't ring out of the blue to fix your computer.

Scary warnings on your screen

A pop-up says your computer is locked or infected and tells you to call a number straight away.

Don't call the number. Close the window or turn the computer off, then call us.

Fake bank or police calls

The caller says your money isn't safe and asks you to move it, or to read out a code from a text message.

Hang up and call your bank on the number on your card. Banks never ask you to move money to keep it safe.

Parcel, toll and tax texts

A text says a parcel is waiting, a toll is unpaid or a refund is due, with a link to pay a small fee.

Don't tap the link. Go to the official website or app yourself if you want to check.

"Hi Mum, this is my new number"

A message from a "family member" on a new number who urgently needs money for a bill.

Call them on their old number before you do anything.

Offers that seem too good to be true

Investments, prizes or a new online friend who soon needs money, often with pressure to keep it secret.

Talk to someone you trust first. Pressure to keep it secret is a warning sign.

Infected computer

Could your computer be infected?

Harmful programs often get in through a scam call, a fake download or an email attachment. Some quietly let a scammer back in later. We find them, remove them, and check nothing was changed.

  • Pop-ups or warnings that keep coming back
  • Your web browser opens a different home page or search by itself
  • New programs or toolbars you didn't install
  • Much slower than it used to be
  • Friends getting strange emails "from you"
  • The mouse moving on its own
Online banking

Bank asked you to get your computer cleaned?

If your bank has blocked online banking after a scam or virus, we inspect and clean your computer, phone or tablet, and give you a written service report and invoice for your bank's review. You can also book our 7-point safe banking check for peace of mind.

Questions

Senior-friendly tech help FAQs

I think I've been scammed. What should I do first?

Stop, and don't pay or share any codes. If money or banking details are involved, call your bank on the number on your card. Then call us, and we'll check your computer and secure your accounts.

Will you need my banking password?

No. During a safe banking check you sign in to your bank yourself. We'll never ask for your banking password.

Will you ever call me to fix my computer?

No. We never call out of the blue asking to connect to your computer. If someone does, hang up and call us on 08 6559 6485.

Do you help with phones and tablets?

Yes. We help with iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, as well as Windows computers and Macs.

Do you come to my home?

Yes. We help at homes across most of the Perth metro area, or remotely with your permission once you're comfortable with that.

How is this charged?

By technician time at our standard rates, with what you'd like to cover agreed before we start. Seniors Card holders get 10% off technician time. See Pricing.
