Ransomware help

Files locked and a ransom demand on the screen? We'll help you get them back.

  • Message demanding payment to unlock
  • Files with strange new names
  • Photos and documents that suddenly
  • Backup drive that was connected

Ransomware is harmful software that locks your files and demands payment to unlock them. We remove it, restore your files from backups where they exist, try the recovery options available for that type of ransomware, and secure the computer so it doesn't happen again. We recommend not paying the ransom.

How we fix it

How we help after ransomware

  1. Disconnect straight away

Unplug the computer from the internet and any backup drives, so the ransomware can't spread further.

  2. Identify the ransomware

Knowing which type it is tells us what recovery options exist.

  3. Remove it

The ransomware and anything it installed cleaned off the computer.

  4. Restore your files

From a backup or cloud version history where one exists, or using recovery options for that type of ransomware.

  5. Secure and back up

Updates, passwords and protection, plus a backup that ransomware can't reach.

What this service doesn't cover Paying or negotiating a ransom. We recommend not paying: it doesn't mean you'll get your files back, and it encourages more attacks.
