Backup setup

No backup, or not sure yours works? We'll set one up that runs by itself.

  • Photos are only on one
  • You used to back up
  • You have a backup drive
  • You thought OneDrive or iCloud

We set up automatic backups of your photos, documents and email, to a drive at home and to the cloud, so a failed drive, a theft or a mistake doesn't take them with it. We supply the drive or subscription if you need one, and test that your files actually come back.

Common problems

Sound familiar?

  • Your photos are only on one computer or phone
  • You used to back up, but haven't for months
  • You have a backup drive, but don't know if it's working
  • You thought OneDrive or iCloud was a backup
  • Several family members' files need protecting
  • You'd struggle to replace what's on your computer

Already lost files? See Data recovery.

How we fix it

How we set up your backup

  1. Find what matters

Photos, documents, email and anything else you couldn't replace, on each device.

  2. Recommend the right setup

Usually a drive at home and a cloud backup, so there's always a copy somewhere else. We confirm the price of any drive or subscription before ordering.

  3. Set it up to run by itself

Automatic backups on a schedule, so you don't have to remember.

  4. Test a restore

We bring a file back from the backup, to prove it works.

  5. Show you how to check it

How to see that it's running, and how to get a file back yourself.

How it works

From brief to done, in three steps

  1. Tell us what you need

Book online or call. Tell us what you'd like set up and which devices are involved.

  2. We confirm the plan

Before we start, we confirm what's included and roughly how long it will take.

  3. We do the work

At your home or remotely, at a time that suits you.

Questions

Backup answered

Isn't OneDrive or iCloud a backup?+

Not on its own. They keep files in sync, so if a file is deleted or locked, the change can sync everywhere. A separate backup is a copy you can go back to.

Do I need a drive and the cloud?+

It's the safest setup: the drive is quick to restore from, and the cloud copy survives a fire, flood or theft at home.

Can you supply the drive or cloud backup?+

Yes. We recommend what suits you and confirm the price before ordering. Or we'll set up one you already have.

How often should it back up?+

Automatically, at least daily for most homes. We set a schedule that suits how you use your computer.

How is this charged?+

By technician time at our standard rates, plus any drive or subscription you approve, with the scope confirmed before we start. See Pricing.
