File server migration

Still relying on an office server for your files? We'll move them to the cloud carefully.

  • Opening files from home is
  • Server or NAS is old
  • Only one person knows how
  • You're paying to maintain hardware

An office server or NAS drive was fine when everyone worked in the office. Now it's slow to reach from home, costly to keep running, and a single point of failure. We move your files and their access settings to SharePoint or Google shared drives, and switch over at a time that suits you.

  • Same-day or next-day, where available
  • Onsite across Perth, or remote
  • No lock-in contract
  • Business and home IT
Common problems

When the office server becomes the bottleneck

  • Opening files from home is slow or needs a VPN
  • The server or NAS is old, out of warranty or running out of space
  • Only one person knows how the folders and access are set up
  • You're paying to maintain hardware just to store files
  • You're worried about what happens if the drive fails

Server also runs business software, not just files? See Server & legacy system support.

How we fix it

How we migrate your files

  1. Review the server

We look at the folders, file sizes, access settings and anything that won't move easily.

  2. Plan the new structure

We map old folders to new SharePoint sites or Google shared drives, and agree a switchover date.

  3. Set up access

Access in the new location matches who should see what.

  4. Copy the files

Files are copied while the server keeps working, then a final catch-up copy before switchover.

  5. Switch over

Everyone moves to the new location at the agreed time, with syncing set up on each computer.

  6. Keep the old copy

The server stays read-only for an agreed period, so nothing is lost.

  2. We confirm the plan and scope

Onsite or remotely, scheduled to keep disruption to your business low.

Questions

File server migration answered

Can we keep working during the migration?+

Yes. Files are copied in the background, and the switchover happens at a time you choose.

What happens to the old server?+

It stays read-only for an agreed period, so you can check nothing is missing before it's retired.

Will folder permissions move across?+

Access is set up again in the new location to match who should see what, and we use the move to tidy up anything that was too open.

SharePoint or Google shared drives?+

It depends on whether you use Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. We work with both.
