Leaving a reseller-managed account, merging two businesses or starting fresh in a new Microsoft 365 account means moving mailboxes and your domain, and a domain can only belong to one account at a time. We plan the switchover, migrate each mailbox and keep interruption to a minimum.

Common problems

When you need a tenant-to-tenant migration

  • Your Microsoft 365 account is controlled by a reseller or former provider
  • You don't have full admin access to your own account
  • Two businesses are merging their email
  • You're restructuring and need a new Microsoft 365 account
  • A previous provider set up your account and is no longer around

How we fix it

How we move between Microsoft 365 accounts

  1. Review both accounts

Users, mailboxes, shared mailboxes, licences and admin access.

  2. Plan the switchover

A domain can only be in one account at a time, so we agree a switchover window, usually outside business hours.

  3. Prepare the new account

Users, licences and shared mailboxes ready in advance.

  4. Copy mailboxes

Mail, calendars and contacts copied ahead of the switch.

  5. Move the domain

At the agreed time, the domain moves to the new account and remaining mail is copied across.

  6. Reconnect and check

Computers and phones reconnected, and every user checked.

Questions

Tenant-to-tenant migration answered

Why can't we just move the domain over?+

A domain can only be connected to one Microsoft 365 account. It has to be removed from the old account first, which is why the switchover is planned carefully.

How long will email be interrupted?+

There's a short window during the domain move. We schedule it for a quiet time and confirm it with you beforehand.

We don't have admin access to our current account. Can you still help?+

Often, yes. We'll work with you and the current provider to get the access needed, or plan around it.

Will Outlook need to be set up again?+

Usually, yes. Computers and phones need to connect to the new account, and we handle that as part of the move.
